KGPMTA is an association of medical teachers (doctors) working as clinicians, academicians and researchers in Kerala Government Medical Colleges who joined government service with a Post-graduate degree.
Majority of our members are Assistant Professors in various departments and this association represents the aspirations of these junior faculty. It also provides a platform for interaction, co-operation and knowledge sharing among them.
Our association is also committed to patient care, academic excellence in medical eduction and advancement of medical research.
This association was established due to the continuous neglect of the demands of junior faculty by the existing representative bodies and under their influence the government as well.
This association was initially started a forum to protest against the pay revision order which said that a doctor with post-graduate degree (MD/MS or DM/MCh in superspeciality) on joining government service as Assistant Professor would be getting a lower salary compared to one who had joined with MBBS alone. The latter category was regarded and safe guarded as seniors to us. They and their existing representative body were hell bent on having MBBS graduates as entry cadre. Of these three we turned legitimately victorious in the last one. We are in the final stages of a battle against the other two.

Starting from a small group pf people sitting around a table, in a nook of a campus, we’ve grown into an association with roots all over the state.
We obtained a government order stating that hence forth we shall be addressed as Assistant Professors.
We could make it sure that in all the deliberations between the Government and the employees, we were called to receive the right input.
It was the sole work of the Association that we received a GO which gives us the right to get the Two Advance increments for joining the department with a PG degree in the teaching subject.
We joined the cause of transfer of employees of the Govt. of Kerala under the DME service legally and obtained an Order reinstating our rights.
Our Association fought for the rights of the Lecturers and ended up in allocating the GP of Rs 6000/- in lieu of Rs 5400/- in pay revision 2009.
Our stand on the duty time derivatives led to the abolishment of the punching system propounded by the DME.
Our stand on duty timings based on the constitutional rights gave way for the rights we enjoy regarding duty timings in various departments across the state.
We took effort in bringing of the amendment of our Special rules regarding the recruitment rules whereby direct recruitment is made mandatory to the post of Assistant Professor in MES.
Our legal stand in various issues revolving round the MES made sure that our presence is a felt need of the Government in various deliberations.
The Association waged a legal battle, the outcome of which was recruitment of Assistant Professors as entry cadre in all the teaching departments including super specialty teaching departments.
We stalled the decision by the administration to go ahead with the illegal system of fixing the seniority in lieu of the legal position envisaged by the clauses of the general as well as the Special rules.
Vide judgments by the Kerala Administrative Tribunal and the Division Bench of the Hon’ble High Court of Kerala, we were able to reinstate our seniority in a cantina of cases. Currently these are under the purview of the apex court and we are awaiting the judgments.
Vide judgment of the KAT order dated 30.11.2021, we were able to restore our seniority to the post of Unit chief as per the clauses laid in the KS&SSR.
By being legally correct and ethically sound, one can defeat stupid attacks with silence and venomous ones with wisdom.
